Causes of Sun Damage
Photoaging is caused, as the name implies, by sun exposure. Over time, brown spots, wrinkles and yellow discolorations occur which in dermatologic terms equate to lentigines, rhytids and solar elastosis.
Dermatologic Treatments
In office treatments include chemical peels and laser resurfacing, as well as injectables such as botulinum toxins and hyaluronic acid fillers. If the patient also has pre-cancerous changes such as actinic keratosis, Dr. Macrene prescribes cryotherapy, topical 5-fluorouracil or photodynamic therapy. Skincare
Dr. Macrene's formulas include over 55 actives per pot to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, boost skin radiance and luminosity. She recommends the following regimen to address these issues along with continued sun avoidance, sun protective clothing and sunscreen use. Dr. Macrene recommends that you do not rely on skincare alone. If you have a history of sun exposure or a family history or personal history of skin cancer, please schedule yearly skin checks for skin cancer with your dermatologist.
