Ask Dr. Macrene:What Is The Difference Between Chemical and Mineral SPF?

Don't forget your SPF!
Apply your sunscreen 15 minutes before you go out into the sun and don't forget to re-apply after every 2 hours of sun exposure.
What is the difference between chemical and mineral sunscreen?
Chemical sunscreens do adhere to facial skin better, but they are linked to more toxicity. They work by absorbing and deactivating the sun's rays.
Mineral sunscreens provide a physical block by reflect the light and are generally considered to be safe, although they may cause some white cast when applied.
Dr. Macrene has included several mineral sunscreens in her High Performance Tinted Moisturizer. These include Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide and Iron Oxides. These provided added sun protection while wearing the Tinted Moisturizer! If you are going outside, Dr. Macrene still recommends wearing sunscreen in addition to her Tinted Moisturizer.
Pro Tip: Always apply your sunscreen as your last step!
